Hudson Mohawk Young Marines

" Strengthening the Lives of America's Youth "

What is the Young Marines?

The Young Marines is the official Youth Drug Demand Reduction Program of the United States Marine Corps, for the Department of Defense. Although we employ and use certain military disciplines, we are not a military-recruiting organization.

The Young Marines program has a strong emphasis on leadership and character development, discipline, service to the community and veteran population, and encouraging a healthy, drug-free lifestyle with regular Drug Demand Reduction classes. Our members pledge to maintain, and actively demonstrate, a drug-free lifestyle within their community. Adult volunteers aid in instilling the core values of honor, courage, and commitment so inherent to the American way of life, by teaching leadership skills that will last a lifetime.

Our program includes weekly drill, community service to Veterans' and other Patriotic organizations, Drug Demand Reduction, Encampments, Physical Fitness, a Marksmanship program, Rank and Ribbon achievement and a large variety of other activities designed to motivate and inspire our youth to succeed.

What the Young Marines Is Not - We are not an alternative to the Juvenile Justice System, meaning we do not work with probation, family court or law enforcement or act as a "Scared Straight" Program.  We are not a program for high risk or violent youth with an extensive criminal history.  We are not an alcohol, drug or addiction rehabilitation program. Please see our links page for programs qualified to handle these concerns.

To be enrolled in the Young Marine Recruit Training, ALL parents and/or guardians, as well as the youth MUST attend one of the orientation meetings. The purpose of the orientation is for the HMYM staff to have a formal chance to introduce the youth and adults to the HMYM unit staff, as well as explain the Young Marine program. Recruit enrollment packets will be available at the orientation.

In addition to the forms included in this packet you will need the Physical Examination form included in packet - a current sports physical will be accepted. Recruits may not participate until current physical is on file.
Young Marines Enrollment Package  Please email Tom DeMeo or call (518) 275-7216 for more information.

Our Unit's temporary new meeting location meets every Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 at STRIDE Adaptive Sports in West Sand Lake, NY. All drill days are located in this building or on its grounds. Events are usually updated on the calendar for those days. We will no longer meet at the Colonie Youth Building as it has been sold and will be torn down in the near future.
