The Young Marines is the official Youth Drug Demand Reduction Program of the United States Marine Corps, for the Department of Defense. Although we employ and use certain military disciplines, we are not a military-recruiting organization.
The Young Marines program has a strong emphasis on leadership and character development, discipline, service to the community and veteran population, and encouraging a healthy, drug-free lifestyle with regular Drug Demand Reduction classes. Our members pledge to maintain, and actively demonstrate, a drug-free lifestyle within their community. Adult volunteers aid in instilling the core values of honor, courage, and commitment so inherent to the American way of life, by teaching leadership skills that will last a lifetime.
Our program includes weekly drill, community service to Veterans' and other Patriotic organizations, Drug Demand Reduction, Encampments, Physical Fitness, a Marksmanship program, Rank and Ribbon achievement and a large variety of other activities designed to motivate and inspire our youth to succeed.
What the Young Marines Is Not - We are not an alternative to the Juvenile Justice System, meaning we do not work with probation, family court or law enforcement or act as a "Scared Straight" Program. We are not a program for high risk or violent youth with an extensive criminal history. We are not an alcohol, drug or addiction rehabilitation program. Please see our links page for programs qualified to handle these concerns.
